We're going to make a Christmas card with this project. It's a lot like the Gift Tag project. Here are four cards as an example of what you can do. We particularly like the harvest card with the pumpkin design. You'll need a blank card (or any paper of your choice), a fabric with a design you'd like to use, Wonder Under, your iron and scissors, and a healthy imagination. For this card, we're going to fuse a design on the outside and inside. We also used Sharpie pens to do some decorating, as well as some glitter glue to highlight the snow globe. Lastly, if you have decorative scissors, they make a nice edge for the front of the card.
Choose a fabric with a design you can use. This snow globe is a bit large, but we're going to cut it down later to make it fit the card. We also like the holly designs in the corner as they can be used inside or on another card altogether.
Place your fabric right side down on your ironing board. Press.
Cut a piece of Wonder Under (or other fusible) to fit the design. If you need to, cut two pieces; it won't matter in the end if you piece together the Wonder Under.
Place the Wonder Under glue side down on the wrong side of the fabric, and fuse into place with your dry, hot iron (follow manufacturer's instructions).
After the Wonder Under has cooled, cut the design you wish from the fabric.
We're using a cream colored card (available at any craft store), but you can use any paper at all.
Begin to peel the paper backing from the design, exposing the "sticky" side on the back of your fabric.
Trim your design to fit the card and after making sure it is where you'd like it to be on the card, sticky side down and right side up, press with a hot, dry iron (follow manufacturer's instructions).
Remove the backing from the other pieces you want to use on the inside (optional).
Press into place following manufacturer's directions after you've decided on an attractive layout.
Decorate the card with glitter glue, markers, floss, or anything else you have on hand. We trimmed the edge of the front with decorative edged scissors and highlighted the edge with a blue marker.
This shows the inside with the blue decoration on the edge, which follows the line of cutting from the previous step.
The finished product. Again, refer to the cards given as examples at the beginning of the project. You can use small, large, or medium sized images from fabrics. You can use a dotted line to outline your design to imitate stitching. You can leave off any cutting or extra embellishment, or add more if you like. To complete your card, write your greeting on the inside and mail it to a loved one. They'll cherish it for years to come.
