It's almost summer; in fact, we have 13 days to go!
We have a couple of quick announcements -
On the front page of http://www.SewingWeb.com, there is a question that
has been posed to members of the site about chat times. Please stop by
the front page and let us know your preferences.
For the month of June, we're highlighting sewing history, primarily
machines and notions, and the changes made in the history of life in
general as relates to the home sewing machine. In the early years, the
home sewing machine was seen as a job eliminator. The reality, though,
was that it was one of the first in a line of time-saving devices that
soon changed the way most women lives. Not to mention that the
introduction of "buying on time" is intimately linked to the sewing
machine and Singer specifically. The making payments method of
affording a very expensive device at the time was a double-edged sword,
though; some people (as with nowadays) couldn't keep up and had threats
made upon their possessions, person, and who knows what else. Enjoy the
tidbits of information found in our "Did you know" section of the front
page. There will be a new fact each day and they will be archived at
the end of the month, along with a list of references on the web and
elsewhere if you care to learn more.
How has your sewing machine changed YOUR life?
Enjoy the warmer weather here in the States and your changing seasons
elsewhere in the world. Please drop by our message boards any time, and
join us in a live chat; we'd love to see you there.
That's it for now... thanks for your support! And don't forget to let
us know what you're interested in seeing and learning on SewingWeb.com.
Keep Sewing,
